Box score Harvard game story Northeastern game story Justin Tobe registered 24 saves for his first shutout in a Harvard uniform, and Jon Pelle figured in three of the five goals as the 18th-ranked Crimson took a 5-0 win against Northeastern in the consolation game of the 54th annual Beanpot Monday night at the TD Banknorth Garden. The Crimson scored the only goal it would need just 3:35 into the game as Tobe made nine stops each in the first and third periods to go with six second-period saves. The win snapped a string of five consecutive losses in the Beanpot Tournament for Harvard, which saw its last win in the tournament come in the 2003 consolation game against Northeastern. Harvard opened the game with a barrage of shots on Northeastern goaltender Adam Geragosian, outshooting the Huskies, 19-1, in the first half of the opening period and getting on the board with a Ryan Maki power-play goal at 3:35. Maki took a pass from the point, looked like he might pass across the goalmouth, but instead banked it in off the inside of Geragosian's leg. Harvard pulled away with three goals in the second, with the freshman line of Nick Coskren, Steve Rolecek and Jimmy Fraser combining for the first two. Coskren skated down the right wing and wristed a shot on net. The rebound deflected to Rolecek, who notched his first career goal. Rolecek started the next goal with a hard check behind the net, freeing the puck to Fraser. Geragosian stopped his shot, but the rebound went to Coskren who roofed it over Geragosian's glove. Pelle made it 4-0 when he finished off a nice play after an offensive-zone faceoff win. Paul Dufault won the puck to Dave Watters, who found Pelle cutting to the net. Pelle added another goal in the third, when Maki made a nice move around a defender and forced Geragosian to make a pad save. Pelle got to the rebound and shot over the goalie's leg for a 5-0 lead. Harvard finished the game 2 for 8 on the power play, while the Crimson successfully killed all six of Northeastern's power play chances. The win completes the nonleague portion of the schedule for Harvard, which begins a four-game stretch to close the regular season Friday at Colgate. The Crimson improved to 14-9-2 with the win, while struggling Northeastern fell to 2-20-6.
