Once again, the Beanpot trophy will make its home at Boston University. Just under a minute after Boston College made it a 2-2 contest early in the third period, No. 5 BU notched the game-winner on a power-play goal from tournament MVP Pete MacArthur en route to 3-2 triumph over the fourth-ranked Eagles on Monday evening at the TD Banknorth Garden. BC goalie Cory Schneider won the Eberly Award as the Beanpot's top goalie.

With their 27th Beanpot title, the Terriers have now claimed half of the tournament's 54 championships.

"I thought it was a great college hockey game," said BU Head Coach Jack Parker. "It was a great defensive effort - we clamped down a lot in the second and third periods and didn't give [BC] a lot of grade-A scoring chances. The second period was one of the best periods of college hockey in a long time."

"It's a certain attitude that we carry into the Beanpot - it's a different feeling," described BU junior netminder John Curry. "When the game is tight, we remember that we've won it so many times, so we just go out there and try to have fun, enjoy the moment and do the best we can."

MacArthur, who assisted on BU's first goal of the night, batted in an elevated rebound right in front of the BC goal following a shot by classmate Bryan Ewing with 12:42 left in regulation. Junior Sean Sullivan also assisted on the goal, which was the Terriers' only power-play strike on five tries.

The tally broke a 2-2 tie and the BU defense did the rest, helping the fifth-ranked Terriers win their 11th consecutive contest, their longest such streak in a single season since reeling off 12 straight during the 1993-94 campaign.

The Terriers improved to 18-8-2 with the victory, while No. 4 BC dropped to 19-7-2.

BU outshot the Eagles by a 36-20 margin, including 26-11 after the first period. Curry turned back 18 of the Eagles' shots, while Schneider made 33 saves in a losing effort.

After spotting the Eagles a 1-0 lead through the first period, the Terriers dominated the run of play in the middle stanza and got goals from Ewing and freshman Jason Lawrence in the process to take a 2-1 advantage. Each second-period goal came nearly immediately after BU killed off a penalty.

BC senior Stephen Gionta made it a 2-2 affair when his shot from the right side deflected off a BU stick before scooting past Curry.

After MacArthur's heroics, the Eagles nearly tied the game again midway through the third, but a mad scramble in front of the BU net was put to a halt when freshman defenseman Matt Gilroy cleared the puck.

BU had the first three power-play opportunities of the contest, with the second and third coming just 56 seconds apart midway through the opening period. The result was a 5-on-3 situation that lasted for just over a minute, but the Terriers came up empty.

The Eagles had their first extra-man situation with 2:39 remaining in the opening frame and cashed in just seven seconds later on a fortunate bounce.

Following a faceoff win by junior Brian Boyle, senior Peter Harrold collected the puck and skated along the right side before wristing a backhanded shot right in front of the BU goal. Curry was there for the initial stop, but before he was able to cover it up, a BU defenseman kicked the puck under Curry's arm and past the goal line.

It was the first power-play goal allowed by the Terriers since its 4-3 win at BC on Jan. 27, a span of five games.

Soon after killing off an early second-period penalty, the Terriers were able to notch an equalizer with help from a pair of sophomores.

A deflected puck near center ice was picked up by Ewing, who sent it up to MacArthur. After avoiding a BC defenseman by maneuvering the puck between his legs, MacArthur peppered the net with two shots on goal before Ewing knocked in the latter rebound right in front of the crease with 15:53 left in the middle period.

The Terriers used the momentum of another penalty kill to take the lead just under six minutes later via the freshman line of Lawrence, Brandon Yip and Chris Higgins.

After a battle in the neutral zone, Higgins sent a puck off the boards to Lawrence, who centered it to Yip. The puck glazed off Yip's stick before squirting out in front of the BC net, where Lawrence was there to put it between Schneider's legs.
